the path to portraiture

Seven years ago I made decision to "get back on the horse", artisticly speaking.  The drought was over, it was time to find my way back.  Something had yeilded, I had discovered the key to the next step on the path to my creative vision for myself.  The vision had always been there and needed little to no effort to visualise.  I always knew I was going to be "something" in the creative world.  I knew art was the field where I would belong and as always, once I knew what the rules were, my current position on the field, my team mates of course the opposition, especially my opposite number (the person occupying my position on the opposing team),  finally, some might say, most importantly where were the goalposts, what were we aiming at?  The place where points were made...

Visualise

It was easy to see because the goal was always just the other side of the most heavily defended area.  I like this metaphore because it alows me to see the whole thing.  This is the key stage just before "planning and prep" .  Once you can see it all then you can begin to visualise with the imagantion and inner eye.  Now you can play scenarios out, reherse plays, practice the skills you need for this particular match.  First all in the mind and then I externalise (usually to my journal/ sketchbook) what needs to be external for your planning and preparation.  The more you prctice concious taking these steps the quicker they become second nature and I even forget that there is a specific process and order to the workflow.

Planning and preparation

Being able to see the whole picture is key to being able to make the decisions I needed to take me towards my goal.
